My Journey of Faith Part 14
Critical Race Theory: Fact or Fiction?
I can remember in the 1950s when evolution was called the theory of evolution. Yet, despite the mountains of evidence that can now dispute such a theory, it is no longer considered a theory but a fact. For this reason, God creates the consequences by which fallen men will live. "For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools...". Not acknowledging the creator God, they became "fools" in Greek means mōraínō from which we derive the word moron. Dull, sluggish ("without an edge"); acting "stupid or silly," "A simpleton" "insipid, flat."
Psalm 15:1 says, "The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." Show me a man who says there is no God, and I will show you a person who does not seek diligently the Bible to know the Creator God who came to save men from their sins. Even more unfortunate than they are those individuals who believe themselves believers in God but who do not seek the truth of God's Word.
While serving at our Church in D.C., I began attending a focus group on John Piper's book Bloodlines. Of course, I had read the book before attending, and one major problem began to surface: He never defined the word race. His reason was the different ways people define the word, which I felt was wrong because a Bible scholar as he is should always set forth the truth according to the Word of Truth.
Critical Race Theory: Fiction!
The book of Genesis in the Bible is essential because we can understand nothing about ourselves as humans apart from a correct understanding of our origin. 1) Genesis teaches creation as nothing plus God equals everything; any other theory is bizarre and unreasonable. 2) Among many other truths, Genesis teaches a division of languages and people groups. Genesis does not teach the multiplication of races. That is a Darwinian fallacy; if you read his book, you know he didn't even believe it.
Genesis 11 begins in verse 1, "Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words." Moses mentions two sides of the same curse regarding the consequences of Babel. God told Adam and Eve to go forth and multiply and fill the earth, and they did this. However, for 1,535 years, men lived very long lives, resented God, and became very disobedient to Him and violent toward one another. So much so God repented for having created humanity and destroyed the world through a worldwide flood, except for eight people.
Roughly 400 years after the flood, humanity once again raised their fists in God's face and attempted to build a tower to reach God. Humanity brought moronity to a whole new level and, in so doing, brought yet another curse upon the earth. They said to themselves let us build a tower, but also in verse 4, "...and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth." In effect, let us stay here and get all the glory.
Critical Race Theory: A Confused Conclusion
God's response is given in verses 6 and 7. "The LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another's speech."
In effect, God said you want to make war with Me, you can make war with one another, and He divided one people into many nations. We are given a reality check from the Apostle Paul preaching on Mars Hill, Acts 17:24; 26-27. "The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands;" God holds the universe that we cannot fathom in His back pocket. Furthermore, "He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God."
The curse at Babel brought upon all humanity the division of the nations, making it more clear to men that they needed God's salvation for their sinfulness.
Finally, "experts" disagree on the number of races, ranging from 3 to 60. Darwin devised the races in his insane theory of evolution. The complete title of his book is The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life (1859). The major wars of the 20th Century were because of this premise.
Nevertheless, there is one humanity through the fallen race of Adam; as he fell, so did we all. However, salvation is in no other than the Lord Jesus Christ. By God's grace, those who repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are placed into Christ, becoming part of the Divine family and a new race. There are only two races, Biblically speaking, end of story!
Critical Race Theory: The Good from Bloodlines
The one good thing that came out of the study for me was the introduction of myself and a brother, who became fast and very close friends. His first reaction was adverse to my statement that I didn't see color and he is a man of color. Afterward, traveling to and from a city of some distance to stand up for another brother who did the right thing by confessing to the authorities something he was guilty of before coming to Christ. He received a minimum sentence and was set free. The brother and I now understand each other very well, we love each other and are in harmony.
Critical race theory divides people by race and not according to the individual and certainly not through God's eyes. Let us appreciate Paul's vantage point as he spoke for God. "Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts; and then each man's praise will come to him from God.' (1 Corinthians 4:5)
