Alexandre Dumas was a French writer, best known for his numerous historical novels of high adventure, which have made him one of the most widely read French authors in the world. His books include The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask.
In the story that lay beneath the injustice of The Count of Monte, Christo Dantes was sent to prison because his friend envied the love and honor he received from his father, Fiance, and shipowner. By comparison Count, Mondego was evil, selfish, and self-consumed by pride, greed, and jealousy for a man he considered inferior in every way.
Carved into the stones that imprisoned Dantes for thirteen years were the words, "God will Give Me Justice." In the novel by Dumas, there is extreme injustice as we view the actions of a proud blue-blood who considers his ancestry to be of noble descent. Therefore he should inherit the blessings that should attend his natural nobility. However, what appears to be justice in the eyes of a man is injustice in the sight of God. No man who has ever been part of Adam's race can sit as the rightful heir before Almighty God.
When Israel chose a king to sit on God's throne, God's response was clear concerning any such man. "But the matter was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, "Give us a king to judge us." And Samuel prayed to the LORD. 7And the LORD said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people regarding all that they say to you, because they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them. Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day—in that they have abandoned Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you as well." (1 Samuel 8:6-8)
The reason that God gave to the Israelites for rejecting any man to sit upon His royal throne was Israel's rejection of God. The world, in considerable measure, has rejected the Son of God as the means of their redemption. When thousands of Israelites heard Peter preach on the Day of Pentecost, they responded in this way, "Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what are we to do?" (Acts 2:37) Peter's response was simple, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
Why was the Holy Spirit necessary? Because apart from the work of the Holy Spirit, men can't repent of their evil hearts in rejecting God as king. For this reason, we read the following, "And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on urging them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!" (Acts 2:40) Locked into every man's heart is the denial that we all need to repent from rejecting God as God. Salvation is an act of God, by grace alone, that forgives men their trespasses and sins that we all heap upon ourselves by rejecting Him as king.
Dumas placed the words in Dantest's mouth; God Will Give Me Justice! The man who receives justice from God will receive an eternity of hellfire for rejecting God as creator, king, and worst of all rejecting His Son as Savior.
The day is upon us when all the rejecting throughout the world will be evidenced by replacing Christ with the long-awaited Anti Christ.
