Peter, James, and John were privileged to see what no one else of their number saw except for one born out of due time, a young pharisee named Saul. Jesus brought them to the mount and was transfigured before them so they might behold His glory before the appointed time.
When Peter wrote about this event to men of faith like himself, he spoke of it in this way. "For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a declaration as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory: "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased"— and we ourselves heard this declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain" 2 Peter 1:16-18.
Some people think of the Bible as fiction when it is the testimony of eyewitnesses. In each case, people were there. Whether it was the Red sea dividing, the walls of Jericho falling flat, or the resurrection of Jesus Christ, people who could easily have said it was a lie either remained silent or verified its validity.
Whenever we experience the kind of victory that I did last week, be assured an attack is coming. Peter no sooner said, you are the Christ, the son of the living God than Satan spoke in his ear, Christ is not to be taken and hung upon a cross. The battle was on. Fortunately, Christ was there and always is; all we need to do is believe what He says. After all, faith is the victory that overcomes the world.
The way to deter spiritual warfare is to take God seriously for what He said in His word. In Ephesians 6:10, we are told, "Put on the full armor of God..." Then again, verse 13 says," Therefore, take up the full armor of God." The point Paul makes is clear; no pieces are to be lacking in the armor because we are vulnerable in that place.
When godly discernment is given that you are amid a spiritual battle, go over each piece with the intent of knowing your heart. Are you trusting in the armor, which is Christ, or yourself? When our identity and faith are in Christ, we are protected.
Prayer is the key that unlocks the door to God's protection. Jesus said, "Have faith in God ...Therefore, I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted to you" Mark 11:22 & 24. When we are honest about our condition and believe Jesus will correct whatever is lacking, He hears our prayer and becomes our armor.
